Recently I spent about a week in Zion National Park for the first time. I was blown away by the gargantuan mountains and the vast open space of the desert. Being from New England I have lived in a certain environment beautiful all the same but in a different way; tight, lush, green, salty, wet, and short. I could drive from Maine to Maryland in one day, you would be so lucky to make it through two states out west in that time. But, not only were the mountains gorgeous but the variety of vegetation was breathtaking. On my hikes I would see rocks as red as apples to slate as grey and blue as the sky, yellow sunflowers, purple daisies, and neon lizards... all living in the sanctuary called Zion.
So needless to say I was so inspired I did this painting the day I returned home. I called "Zion in My Heart" because the beauty and awe of those days I spent there will live with me forever.
This painting is up for sale in Local Colors Gallery, Sugar House, Salt Lake City.
